Awashima Shrine
This shrine is known for marriage and childbirth. Many women have gathered here since ancient times. The deity was transferred here from Awashima Shrine in Wakayama Prefecture. On March 3rd there are seasonal peach festivals, “Let’s meet Awashima and visit the shrine together” and “Sokonuke Hishaku”, which is a festival where you tie linen to the handle of a ladle and offer it to the shrine deity. “Sokonuke Hishaku” includes praying for an “easy childbirth”. Since 1990, there is an event held at Asahina Coast where paper dolls are floated downriver.
