Koyurugi Shrine
The shrine is located on the Cape of Koyurugi. Sasaki Moritsuna is said to have founded the temple between 1185-1189. After the Tairano Yukimori suppression, Moritsuna triumphantly returned to Kamakura. The local guardian deity, Omi “Hachiojimiya”, searched for a new place to settle in. One day, Enoshima’s God of wealth, music, eloquence and water was on his way to the shrine, and climbed Mt. Koyurugi since he was very interested in the scenery. Therefore the deity was moved to this land and was the beginning of the Koyurugi Shrine. It is said that Nitta Yoshisada prayed for victory in the “Battle of Kamakura”.
